We’re coming back to Colorado for Telluride Blues & Brews 2017! And this year, we’re sponsoring the festival and teaming up on a few ideas to get more fans involved. This year the festival has a great mix of established & up and coming musicians, new and old influences of blues music, and an all around damn good lineup.
Telluride Blues & Brews 2017 Prep
The best way to get ready for Telluride Blues & Brews 2017 and get familiar with the lineup is with a good playlist. The one below which, you know…we think is good, includes at least 1 song from every artist playing, and 2+ from a few favorites, including some Gondola Session Alums. We tried to build a flow into it, and avoid having 2 consecutive tracks from any artist.
This playlist is built for the road with a lot of rhythmic and upbeat tracks, though it does have some slower sections. But you can also hit shuffle and sabotage our efforts. Unless you’re shelling out to fly into Telluride, be sure to save/download it in advance so you can roll into town ready to rock. We’re still listening through the extensive catalogs from musicians like Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Steve Winwood, Bonnie Raitt and more, so we may continue adding to this playlist.

Gondola Sessions @ Blues & Brews
2017 will be the first year that we are officially sponsoring the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. When we have attended the festival in the past, we always worked with the festival to help promote each other – coming on board as a sponsor will just let us get more fans involved. Here’s what it means:
1. Ride Along // Adventure Giveaway
Enter Ride Along, a new idea that we’re trialling at this year’s festival where we bring fans on the gondola while recording a session. Our whole goal is to give fans a closer look at musicians performing live music, so this experience is as pure as it gets.
For the chance to Ride Along during a session on the Telluride Gondola, you’ll need to enter Telluride Blues & Brews 2017 Grand Giveaway, where 2 lucky winners get hooked up with:
- 3-day passes
- 4-day camping passes
- a ton of merch
- a Ride Along Gondola Session
*Note that the contest closes September 7
2. Telluride Blues Challenge
This year we’re hopping on as a sponsor for the annual Telluride Blues Challenge. In short, the Blues Challenge is a contest that aims to find unsigned blues talent. And on the Saturday morning of the festival, the contestants each play a couple of songs to a crowd and group of judges. And then the judges pick a winner.
>> And, We’re Filming The Winner
This year, part of the winner’s prize (along with some cash, a Martin Guitar and a slot in next year’s lineup) is getting to record with us on the gondola. We filmed 2016’s winner Steve Itterly after being impressed by his performance, which is where this idea originated. Maybe we’ll film some of the other contestants too, who knows. Either way, we’ll see you Saturday morning at the Elks Lodge for the Blues Challenge. And for the pancakes.
3. Collaboration with Scramble Campbell
Have you heard of Scramble Campbell? If not, definitely check out his work.
He specializes in painting concerts as they are happening, resulting in unique style that is somewhat sloppy and incredibly coherent and detailed at the same time. It has been a dream of ours to work with Scramble, but he is always busy painting performances at festivals like this and scheduling has never worked out.
Our concept is that he paints a signature work on the gondola while we record an artist. This year is the year we’re going to make it happen, we hope.
See You There
We have a few other ideas in the works too – be sure to follow us and/or Telluride Blues & Brews on the socials to stay up to date.
There is a lot going on at the festival that we aren’t a part of, like Saturday’s Grand Beer Tasting, so please don’t use this as your only pre-festival resource. TellurideBlues.com has a lot of info on the festival and links to other sponsors, so at least give that a good look before the festival.
It’s sure to be a good few days of watching, listening to and recording music. Hit us up on the socials @GondolaSessions and tell us who you think we should film, or who you’re most excited to see, or whatever you want.
Hope to see you there,
